when you break a world record, but a man comes in second (x)

And it’s worth note that Ledecky didn’t just win the 800 freestyle- she obliterated it:

Thats her. And those specks in the distance are her competitors. The second place swimmer was 11 SECONDS behind her. 11 seconds is FOREVER in something like this. Most second place swimmers in most races finish fractions of a second behind the first place swimmer.

Her finishing with none of her competitors in sight. And that yellow line is the previous world record’s pace. Ledecky is more than a full body length ahead.

Which, btw, she did in the 400m freestyle earlier in the games. Seen here:

(The previous world record in this race was held by her, to begin with, btw. As well as the 3 world record times preceding that one.)

So to sum it up: Yeah, Phelps is one of the most decorated Olympic swimmers ever etc etc but him getting silver means jack in the face of the actual-human-avatar-of-Poseidon that is Katie Ledecky.

why in the world are we still asking this question in 2019?

now-exiting-fuckability

Trump: says and does racist things.

People: call Trump racist.

Journalists and politicians:

Ok but like

There’s no benefit in her going on live television and saying Trump is a racist without elaborating on the subject

What he’s asking is a leading question and sure, taking his ‘how can you say that’ out of context works well to make him seem like he supports Trump but that’s not how it was said in the interview. How it was said was to get her to continue to talk about why Trump is a racist

Don’t believe me? Skip ahead in this video to 0:15 seconds and listen to the entire thing in context.

She then goes on to ELABORATE on how he uses dogwhistles and his reaction to Charlottesville (by calling Nazi’s fine people) so people who tune in to the interview can draw connections to what she’s saying as opposed to just reacting, like op did, to the exact words that are said.

I think too many people on here fail to realize that news, real news, isn’t done by just saying shit. You have to be able to back it up and in order to do so, you need to be able to spell something out for people who don’t get it. And someone who already has been criticized by people for her views (including by people on here, bizarrely, because they keep things she’s said out of context) need to be able to get all the information out there.

This kind of “gotcha” post is frequently made by people who either didn’t actually watch the thing they’re critiquing, whether specifically or as a format (or if they do, they’re being disingenuous in their outrage for the notes and ‘woke’ points that are ironic in their apparent unawareness of what’s actually going on in context).

Another example of this type of post was the one that went everywhere with the congressional questioning of Terry Crews, in which he was asked a similarly leading question by a congresswoman which, taken out of context, appears clueless and dismissive, but was actually a set up prompt to allow him to elaborate.
